Illenium is a name that has garnered a huge following of late, and this shot to stardom is not by chance, no sir..not by any means. Illenium is one of those artists who has actually carved out his own unique sound, and thus, his place in eDM history. If you haven’t heard his sound before, it will only take you a few tracks to identify the driving synth-led baselines, the haunting vocals that become engrained in your DNA, and of course the hollow drums the precede the ever-so-satisfying drops.
The term ‘Frenchies do it better’ is perfectly exemplified through Stwo. I don’t even know how to describe his sound but here goes…. you can expect some trappy elements mixed with crisp electronic sounds and some experimental elements. You can also hear his future-bass roots shine through which ultimately rounds out a medley of sounds, experience and influence that results in a very unique sound that just seems to work.
Before you read any more, do yourself a favour and go and watch Only The Brave. Boasting an all star cast including Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Connelly and Taylor Kitsch – Only The Brave tells the (true story) a team of municipal firefighters who battle catastrophic bush fires to save their hometown. The plot revolves around the lives of Eric Marsh (Brolin) and Brendan McDonough (Teller) whose paths cross when Brendan signs up to be a firefighter. Brendan, a struggling junkie, is driven to clean up his act after the recent birth of his daughter, hence the interest in the firefighting position.
I randomly started watching The Sinner as it caught my attention when trawling through Metacritic for something fresh and wow.wow.wow (cue Owen Wilson). I’m going to go out on a limb and say best (new) TV show of 2017. Jessica Biel gives a career best performance as a troubled former (apparent) junkie who randomly murders a stranger on the beach for seemingly no reason.
I first heard about Call Me By Your Name on a Reddit screener thread where the chat around the movie was overwhelmingly positive. I had to know more so a quick googling session and a couple of rave reviews later, I pulled the trigger! From start the finish I was surprised at how much this movie drew me in.
Screener Season is finally upon us (has been for a few weeks now). Of all the notable movies, both released and forthcoming, I was most excited for Molly’s Game. This is for a number of reasons, which you can find numbered (in a very particular order) below.
Gather round and embrace his sound….introducing Kasbo. Having just completed the ‘A Moment Apart’ tour with none other than ODESZA, Kasbo is flying high! His latest release, ‘Snow in Gotherburg’ is nothing short of a masterpiece. Uplifting melodies and soft vocals polished to perfection. I’ve been following Kasbo for a few years now and you can really hear his development shine through his sound.
Kidnap (Kid) is someone I have been following for quite some time. I first head of him through his Submotion Orchestra remix which I still consider to house one of the greatest fast-paced beats i’ve heard in a long time (2:22 if you are looking for an upper/running). His most recent release, ‘Skin’, took me by surprise as he really slowed it down and focused on the vocals and the result (to me) is amazing.
Brad’s Status really surprised me. After watching (part of) the trailer, it struck me as a movie I had seen 1,000 times. I can happily confirm this was not the case. I had seen the tag ‘comedy’ somewhere in regards to this movie, which was part of the reason I chose to watch, but let me tell you, this was no comedy.
