Call Me By Your Name (πŸŽ₯)

I first heard about Call Me By Your NameΒ on a Reddit screener thread where the chat around the movie was overwhelmingly positive. I had to know more so a quick googling session and a couple of rave reviews later, I pulled the trigger!Β  From start the finish I was surprised at how much this movie drew me in. Most surprisingly (to me), the pace of this movie is quite slow but what it lacks in speed, it more than makes up for with outstanding character development, expert cinematography, amazing track selection and an absolutely breathtaking location (Northern Italy, circa 1983).

Advertised as a coming-of-age tale, Call Me By Your Name (based on the novel of the same name) tells the story of a young Italian boy’s (TimothΓ©e Chalamet) journey into manhood, and the accompanying sexual confusion that ensues. Without giving too much away, the movie revolves around the unexpected romantic relationship between between Armie Hammer and Chalamet when Hammer is hired to assist Chalamet’s farther over the summer. I can confidently say that there is a refreshing element of mystery with regards to the plot. The direction pivoted at least three times throughout, which leaves you guessing until the closing credits. In summary, watch this movie and be sure to go in with an open mind. This isn’t one of those movies that received excellent reviews due to the pro-gay message, this is one of those movies that received excellent reviews because it earned them. You be the judge…
